My Journey to Becoming Oscar Under Pressure

In my early days, fueled by a deep eagerness to learn and immerse myself in the world of power washing, I found myself standing where many do—on the outside, looking in. I reached out to local businesses for an opportunity to learn the ropes, hoping to become a part of their story. However, those attempts were met with closed doors and rejection. Perhaps they sensed my ambition, that I wasn't there just for a job but to absorb and master the trade. They were right. Instead of becoming a part of their story, I began to write my own.

My journey into the power washing world started modestly. I kicked off with a basic electric pressure washer from costco, a trusty companion until it gave out after just three hours during a job. I had to finish the job so i turned to a rental from Home Depot, which proved to be so reliable that i purchased it.  Picture this: a garden hose, a high-pressure wand, a tank of gas, and a dream, all packed into a 2006 Hyundai tiburon coupe. Not exactly your typical setup, but hey, you’ve got to start somewhere! 

This marked the first of many upgrades that would shape our path to growth. There were moments, especially in those early days, when the challenges seemed overwhelming and I nearly gave up. But something inside me said to stick it out and thank goodness I did. I am here today because i chose to stay the course. 

As the challenges grew, so did our equipment and our ambitions. From a V6 coupe to a Dodge Grand Caravan (yes, it’s still with us as our trusty backup!), and finally, to a truck equipped to handle any job thrown our way. Along this path, I didn't just accumulate miles and equipment; I built a wealth of knowledge from scratch—because, let’s be honest, initially, I knew nothing about power washing and sealing hardscapes.

Today, Oscar Under Pressure isn’t just another power washing busniess. We are well recognized in the area, dominating every job with a blend of top-tier technology and good old-fashioned elbow grease. We've learned from the best—veterans with many years in the game—and equally from our own hands-on experiences.

But what truly drives me? It's simple:  I love what I do. Theres a unique joy in meeting and interacting with different people everyday, understanding their needs, and delivering beyond their expectations.They’re not just customers; they’re part of our story. And yes, I appreciate the financial rewards of my hard work, and i'm not shy about that-It's part of what keeps our services top-notch. And boy, oh boy do I love the satisfaction of seeing a clients face light up when they see their home transformed by our efforts. That's the real reward. 

Undeterred by the setbacks, I chose to carve out my own niche in the power washing world. I chose the path of self-taught expertise. I invested time in perfecting my craft, one job at a time. These rejections, rather than dampening my spirit, fueled my determination to master the trade on my own terms. What began as a quest for knowledge and skill blossomed into the establishment of my own brand—Oscar Under Pressure.

Fast forward to today, Oscar Under Pressure stands proudly among those very businesses as their peer, their rival, their competition. It’s a testament to where ambition and hard work can lead. It’s a reminder that sometimes, those who don't open their doors to you are unknowingly opening your path to something greater.

Now, as I stand amidst the competitive landscape I once longed to be part of, I carry the stories of each home I renew and the trust of the clients I serve. It’s a narrative marked by resilience, where every 'no' I encountered was reengineered into a stepping stone towards building this business.

Before jumping into power washing, my teenage years were spent mastering the restaurant hustle—from starting as a dishwasher to becoming a master in the kitchen. I soaked up every flavor, learned the art of precise cuts, and delighted in whipping up desserts and crafting beautiful dish presentations, all under the watchful eyes of skilled chefs.

Even as I navigated the busy nights in various restaurants, my days were dedicated to the dynamic world of construction. I was the go-to guy for delivering carpet, tile, and all types of flooring materials across Long Island, from the 5 boroughs to the serene out east. My role wasn't just limited to delivery; I dove hands-on into the art of installing carpet, tile and grout, waterproofing floors, and mastering the craft of floor installation alongside professionals who shared their wealth of knowledge with me. 

But my skill set extended beyond flooring. I tackled a variety of repair jobs, from minor plumbing fixes for toilets and sinks to painting walls with precision. My versatility found me in gardens, installing paver patios and rejuvenating landscapes, ensuring every piece of the outdoor space fitted perfectly and looked its best. This wide-ranging experience in construction, repairs, and landscaping alongside my restaurant hustle meant I was always on the move, constantly learning and applying new skills.

I've truly done it all - from the precise art of culinary preparations to the physical demands of construction work. Each experience has sharpened my attention to detail, a skill that now defines my approach to every power washing project. This varied background has deeply influenced my business ethos, ensuring that the same dedication to quality and service shines through in every project I undertake. Whether it's restoring the beauty of your hardscapes or bringing a new lease of life to your home, my commitment to excellence remains unwavering.

But I didn't stop there. Nope, I'm a firm believer in the power of education and personal growth. So while I was hustling away, I made sure to carve out time to hit the books and expand my horizons. Because hey, there's always something new to learn, right? 

My journey didn't pause with the operational side of the business. I invested in specialized training programs and made it a point to attend industry conventions dedicated to all facets of power washing services. This allowed me to not only refine my skills, but also to  learn about cleaning methods, and safety practices in our field. From mastering advanced power washing techniques to understanding different surfaces and cleaning agents, these experiences have been instrumental in shaping the service I offer today. 

Every training session attended and convention visited was an opportunity to enhance my expertise, ensuring that I bring a blend of efficiency and techniques to your project. It's through this blend of hands-on experience and continual professional development that I can confidently say we're equipped to tackle any challenge and exceed your expectations. 

Oh, and let's not overlook my passion for staying active and fit. My love affair with the gym has been a pivotal part of my life. During college, I seized every opportunity to participate in Boot Camp, kickboxing, and yoga classes. This wasn't just a pastime; it was the beginning of something bigger. The owner of Xpress Body Boot Camp, recognizing my enthusiasm and potential, invited me to join the group fitness sessions at his gym. What started as an opportunity to work out with others soon turned into a chance to lead, inspire and motivate. Despite initial nerves, I was thrust into the role of instructor and trainer when he handed me the microphone and entrusted me to lead the class. It was a leap of faith that paid off, marking my entry into a couple of years of coaching and training.

My dedication to fitness transcends more than just a hobby; it's a lifestyle that echoes the discipline and commitment I pour into every project. Through my journey in fitness, I've learned invaluable lessons in consistency, resilience, and the pursuit of continuous improvement. Serving as a trainer and coach for the Boot Camp sessions not only helped my ability to navigate a room and ensure safety but also enhanced my skills in communication, listening, and providing positive feedback.

This experience in fitness has shaped my approach to my work today. It taught me how to lead, inspire, and maintain high standards—qualities that I bring to every power washing project. My fitness journey is a testament to my belief in hard work, dedication, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
